House 3, Week 31

Our realtor is coming by tomorrow to take photos for the official listing.

Yes, friends, time to put the house on the market.

Here come your before and after shots (phew).

Let's start with the outside.

In front, new roof, new driveway, icky bushes removes, new siding, front door, and shutters.

And of course the nasty Swiss Chalet feature has been eradicated in favor of a nice, clean roof line.

Around back, big scary bushes are gone and the siding is all bright and new.

Let's get the more mundane rooms out of the way inside (I am definitely getting a camera with a wide angle lens for the next project).

The bedrooms all had their wallpaper removed, fresh paint added, trim around the windows, new entry and closet doors, and, of course, baseboard heat installed.

New carpet on the floors completes it.

Pink be gone! The full bath got the full treatment with all new fixtures, new tub, new tile, and a fresh coat of paint.

Even the wee little half bath is much peppier with new fixtures, paint, and tile.

Blech. The hallway of pea green carpet and nasty doors.

Is now a brightly lit happy stroll to dreamland.

The family room was already under construction in my before photo, but I think you get the idea.

And now for the "oh wow!" Are you ready?

Living room before...

Living room after!

Kitchen before and after (I don't think any comment is required).

Everything done and dusted (including the kitchen sink).

The Mr. is just about out of steam. Hope he recovers quickly so that he can set to building our garage addition during his between house "vacation."

House 3, Week 29 - Focus on the Kitchen

Helper Bob started hanging the closet doors.

But this week, the focus is on the kitchen.

Seeing the kitchen come together means the end is near.

The low wall between the kitchen and living room is now sporting a nice top.

And here is the view from the living room into the kitchen.

The cabinets are in place with gaps for the dishwasher and range. The stacked washer / dryer go on the left and to the right is a slot for the fridge.

Nice view out the window over the sink into the big backyard.

The Mr. himself doing a bit of varnishing.

But this is the "oh wow" shot. Ten feet of counter top with plenty of drawers and cabinets. Not something you typically find in a small ranch house and once the granite tops are applied, I think this is going to captivate potential buyers.

Kitchen, carpet, touch up. That's all that remains. Oh, and, of course, a final cleaning (which I assume is imminent given that the Mr. has conscripted my floor mop - no worries, I didn't want to do housework today anyway).

House 3, Week 28

Time to tidy up the outside. Jimmy and the boys came by, along with fresh mulch.

Check out Brett. I sometimes wonder if these youngsters can navigate without an iThing plugged into their ears.

Jake and leaf blower guy. Everybody has their specialty.

But at the end of the day, the front yard is what it is. Nothing that a few nice bushes and grub control won't cure, but we're going to leave that to the buyer to figure out.

Appliances! Their arrival signals that we're in the home stretch at last.

Of course they are all stainless steel. No doubt if we keep this up long enough, in ten year's time the fashion will be back to white or (gasp) pink. For now, stainless is what sells.

Super action shot of Helper Bob! He's been putting up moldings. Nice work, Helper Bob.

This flooring creates what is called a "floating" floor. Everything is held together by tension as opposed to being nailed down. I love it. Even though the floor is over concrete, it still has some give to it.

Nice straight lines down the hall.

The bases for the side cabinets in the kitchen.

Look at all those storage cabinets! Plus having such a long work area for food prep and whatnot is to die for.

Action shot of the monster clamps I showed you last week. See? Two directions of squeeze. Sweet.
